April is Sable Island Month at MMA


The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Halifax, Nova Scotia has made April 2016 its Sable Island month. The museum is located at 1675 Lower Water.

Every Tuesday evening in April you will have an opportunity to experience Sable Island from a different perspective and medium:

Tuesday April 5th at 7:30pm: “Just Another Day at the Beach: Flying to Sable Island”

Debbie Brekelmans, pilot with Maritime Air Charters who has completed 500 flights to Sable Island, will talk about the special issues involved in travelling to Sable Island and share her personal research and experience.

Tuesday April 12th at 7:30pm: “Sable Island through a Photographer’s Lens”

Bernadette Morris, photographer, will share her pictures, stories and memories of her time on Sable Island.

Tuesday April 19th at 7:00pm: Documentary Film “S(t)able Island: The Beauty of the Free”

Friends of Sable Island Society will present the first public showing in Nova Scotia of Rae-Anne LaPlante’s new video-documentary about the paradoxical beauty of Sable Island.

Tuesday April 26th at 7:30pm: Book Launch “Sable Island in Black and White”

Jill Martin Bouteillier, author, will introduce her latest book about Sable Island’s history along with pictures and stories starting in 1884.
